Dr. Ryan Wennekamp, B.Sc., DVM
Graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, Saskatoon in 2000. Since then he has been honing his skills as a mixed an-imal practitioner. He spent the first six years of his career in Rocky Mountain House, where he got to work on many different species from bison to gerbils.
In 2006 he, his wife Jillian, and their two dogs moved to Cochrane and joined the clinic. He is presently still working as a mixed animal practitioner, although he spends most of his days on farm looking at horses and cows. He grew up the old-est of four on a cow/calf farm just west of Lloydminster. He completed his agriculture degree from the University of Alberta in 1996 and went straight into the Veterinary Medicine program in Saskatoon.
He spends his leisure time pursuing out-door activities like mountain biking and skiing, as well as trying to keep up with his two small children, Addison and Barrett.
Dr. Tara Risling , DVM
Graduated from the University Of Calgary Faculty Of Veterinary Medicine in 2013 and has been working in mixed animal veterinary medicine near Calgary since then. Prior to attending veterinary school, she completed a biology undergraduate degree and neurobiology master’s degree at the University of Calgary. During vet school she used her research background to study optimizing anesthetic techniques, and worked with a range of species including mice, pigs, bighorn sheep, caribou, and deer. Since starting to practice, Dr. Risling has developed particular interests in ophthalmology, dentistry, dermatology and surgery.
Dr. Risling is originally from Medicine Hat, Alberta, but spent many years living in Calgary before and during post-secondary education. She and her husband now live in Cochrane with their two young daughters, two cats, and one dog. She loves being outdoors, and spends much of her spare time trail running, cross -country skiing, hiking, and cycling. Other hobbies include cooking, baking, and reading.
Dr. Becky Whittle, B.sc., DVM
Dr. Whittle was born and raised in Calgary. She graduated from the University of Calgary in 2009,
earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences with distinction, and a Business
minor in Management and Society. During that time she also participated in a primatology field
research project in Ghana, West Africa.
Becky went on to receive her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Western College of
Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, graduating in 2013 with distinction. After graduation she
moved back to Calgary, where she gained valuable experience over the next 3 years practicing
at a twenty-four hour small animal emergency clinic. She joined the Cochrane Animal Clinic in
September 2016 and is excited to foster relationships with clients and their furry friends. While
she enjoys all aspects of health care she has a particular interest in Dentistry, Surgery, and
Becky has a very spoiled Shih Tzu named Stanley. During her spare time she enjoys getting out
to the mountains as often as possible to go skiing and hiking. She also plays recreational floor
hockey and slo-pitch.
